It’s about providing accessible learning and development opportunities for all staff. About creating career pathways - not just in nursing, but increasingly across a wide range of professional disciplines.

The Institute of Health and Social Studies currently trains over 200 NVQ candidates, around 40 pre-registration nurses and more than 30 students seeking diplomas or honours degrees.

Our approach to training is student-centred and flexible, but also takes into account the needs of service users and departmental priorities. All courses are free to employees of the Health and Social Services Department.
