Institute of Health and Social Care Studies
The Institute offers significant personal and career challenge for ambitious lecturers and trainers in a progressive and evolving environment, where no two days are ever the same.
A staff of 16 full or part-time lecturers and trainers, plus librarians and a small admin support team, all work to make the most of a generous education and training budget. The Library offers excellent educational materials and a fully equipped IT suite.
The Institute provides skills training, a variety of NVQ courses, as well as study days, workshops, conferences and conducts research. The Institute also delivers validated programmes leading to the award of University of Sheffield degrees.
The Diploma in Nursing Studies is a three-year, full-time course in adult or mental health nursing. It forms a career pathway to registration and an Honours Degree in Nursing Studies. An Honours Degree in Healthcare Practice is available to qualified nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals.
Three further degree options have now been added: Community Specialist Nursing, Public Health Nursing and Specialist Adult Nursing. As part of the Agenda for Change, a Knowledge & Skills Framework will form the basis of continuing career development for nurses and midwives.
But of course, delivering qualifications is only part of the story. The Institute works hard to ensure that teaching is relevant by liasing closely with clinical areas – in respect of continually changing educational needs and ongoing developments in clinical practice
