Multi-skilled and multi-cultural

The diverse backgrounds and technical abilities of our Theatre team are what make this department such an interesting environment to work in. Located at the Princess Elizabeth hospital, the suite comprises three established theatres and a fourth, more recently developed facility.

The department is very well-equipped and covers all specialities - except Neuro, Cardiac and Thoracic. The range of procedures we carry out, some of which are at the cutting edge of surgical practice, often require high levels of skill from our flexible and knowledgeable staff.

We’re committed to multi-skilling and cross-training our team in all areas of surgery, anaesthesiology and recovery. We are currently training our ODPs to DipHE standards, in association with the University of Portsmouth, and have received credit for the facilities on offer to students.

The new theatre, designed from the floor up with valuable input from the theatre team, specialises in Orthopaedics and is equipped with Laminar flow. Plans are underway to refit and develop the older theatres, in particular with new lighting.

Recent improvements in staffing levels and scheduling now allow us to manage emergency surgery within the scheduled day, in line with CEPOD recommendations.
