Health Visiting
The health visiting team consisting of health visitors and staff nurses offer a universal service to all families with children under school age. Following the Health Child Programme we offer support and advice for families with young children, development screening, parenting and advice on childrens behaviour. Postnatal depression screening and infant and childhood feeding and nutrition are amongst the other services we offer.
Health Visitors and staff nurses give pre-school immunisations during a clinic for children aged three and a half years, where a multi disciplinary team also offer a comprehensive screening consisting of a developmental assessment, orthoptic check, dental screening and advice in addition to the immunisations.
School Nursing
Our school nurses work with all the schools and colleges within the Island and offer selective screening, drop-in sessions and healthy lifestyle advice for children/young people. As with health visiting, school nurses follow the healthy Child Programme and working closely with parents and teachers they provide health advice for children and young people aged 5-19.
Children’s Community Nurse
Our children's community nurse offers care at home for children recently discharged from hospital including those who have been treated in the UK. She also delivers specialist asthma care, helping children in the community and their families manage their condition, thereby reducing hospital admission. Working with the school nurses the children's community nurse also offers enuresis clinics.
Health Visitors, School Nurses and the Community Children's Nurse work on a geograhical basis within a close knit team. We have strong links with other agencies and welcome and actively take part in multi agency working with our colleagues in health, social services, education and other voluntary and statutory agencies.
