Acute Mental Health

Small and supportive

Our compact and multi-disciplinary teams work closely together to provide care to the community in line with Guernsey’s own mental health legislation.

Nursing staff of all grades play a part in delivering our services, along with psychiatrists, occupational therapists, psychologists and social workers. We also co-operate closely with related voluntary agencies.

User participation in the planning of care is one of our key values – as is on-going education and training for nursing staff, which helps them maintain the high quality of care we offer.

Our teams

Three teams of community mental health professionals – linked to the island’s GP practices – provide assessment, support and therapeutic interventions. A more recently established team specialises in drug and alcohol issues (C.D.A.T.), while we also provide an Assertive Outreach and Crisis Resolution team.

<>All offer accessible, effective and high quality treatment to the population of Guernsey.

Our facilities:

Acute Admission and Assessment, a 21-bed unit, treats patients for a wide variety of mental illnesses, including psychosis, depression and drug and alcohol dependency.

Castel Day Services, an outpatient department, is another very important part of Guernsey’s Adult Mental Health Services. It offers a range of therapies to clients experiencing difficulties such as traumatic episodes and life changes, depression, anxiety and substance abuse. Group work is highly valued here, and is offered to all clients.

Four dedicated homes in the community, with a total of 28 beds, offers therapeutic support to people as they regain independence and prepare for reintegration into the community.
