Urology Specialist Nurse
Theatre Suite, Princess Elizabeth Hospital
“Back home in the Ireland, getting to work meant a 150-mile round trip every day. Here, I’m at the hospital inside ten minutes.”
Mary saw an advertisement in an Irish newspaper and jumped at the chance to work in Guernsey. That was almost five years ago. Now married to a local man, she can settle here indefinitely and continue her rapid career progress.
“I came as D grade, gained E within 12 months and F at the end of my second year. I’m also two years into a Healthcare Practice degree - run by the Institute of Health and Social Care Studies here.”
“Work-wise, I support one consultant surgeon in the smooth running of his urology lists - bladders, kidneys, testicular and prostate cancers and so on.
Last year, we ran a very successful Men’s Health Open Day.”
Mary has also been able to attend specialist events, including the annual Theatre Nurses Conference in Harrogate. “It’s a good chance to meet reps from supplier companies and, of course, drink a little red wine!”
