Service Development Priorities for 2006 to 2008.
We have agreed our Service Development Priorities for 2006 to 2008
- Legislative changes and implementation – the new Children’s Law that was approved in principle by the States in October 2004 and is due to come into force in 2007, will have a fundamental impact on all services working with children, young people and their families and for children and young people within the Bailiwick.
- Integrated Common Assessment Framework/Inter agency protocols and joint planning and working arrangements – this is aimed at ensuring that services work together with the child and their family at the centre of a process where everyone works within the same assessment framework.
- A Review of Services – this will be a rolling programme, and is to ensure that we are using the resources, skills and knowledge within our services to the greatest effect and benefit for children, young people and their families.
- Disability Services for children, young people and their families – with the services for children and adults from the former SPLD service being separated, this provides an opportunity to consider specifically the needs of children with disability. The opening of Le Rondin school in September with shared facilities for children with special needs with Education Department is providing an opportunity for the two departments to work together to identify the needs of children who require additional help and expertise from a range of services and therapies.
- Management information/child health records/interagency sharing and tracking – this is linked in to the Departmental project on electronic patient and social care records, and is a fundamental requirement to underpin an integrated child health and social care service.
Central to everything we do with children, young people and their families are the following aims:
- A child and young person centred approach
- Service user participation
- Inter agency strategic planning framework
- Common Policy and Procedures
- Clear referral pathways and a definition of "core Business"
- Communication and involvement in strategy for all colleagues
- Common assessment process and information sharing
As with all planning, our strategic aims are being kept under review and will be further developed, particularly as we achieve greater involvement of our staff in the process, and are able to gain the views of users themselves.
