Occupational Therapy
Inputs and outcomes
The Occupational Therapy Service consists of four specific disciplines.
Mental Health covers of the Elderly, the Acute Adult Day Centre, the Adult Community Mental Health Team and Supported Employment; Paediatrics supports children in schools and the community; Specialist Learning Disabilities is community-based; and Adult Physical Health encompasses acute care, rehabilitation and community services. The Rapid Response Team is a new initiative which was established in February 2005.
Occupational Therapy staff are located within their individual teams and receive day-to-day operational support from the Team Managers. An OT Service meeting is held on a monthly basis to enable peer support and training in relation to professional issues.
There are structured supervision guidelines in place to ensure that all team members - including support staff - receive formal supervision on a regular basis. There is a system of reflective practice and structured CPD time for qualified staff, whilst everyone is encouraged to produce and maintain up-to-date personal development files.
