About Guernsey and her islands

The island of Guernsey is British, but not part of the United Kingdom nor the European Union. Both Guernsey and her sister island Alderney are situated in the bay of St. Malo, near France’s North-West coast. France is visible on a clear day, yet both Guernsey and Alderney are less than 100 miles from England's South coast.

Guernsey enjoys direct links with most major airports in the UK and a ferry service from Poole, Portsmouth and Weymouth. It has an area of only 24.3 square miles and a population of nearly 59,807 (2001 census). Together with Alderney the combined surface area of the islands is 29 square miles.
